Process

The ceramic process

The works are built by hand without moulds. The form grows slowly, and the firing decides the final surface.

01

Building

The vessels are coil-built layer by layer. The height grows only as much as the clay can bear in a day.

02

Surface

Coarse grogged clay leaves a granular texture. Cracks that appear during drying remain part of the work.

03

Firing

Firing is the most unpredictable stage of the process: it determines colour, the movement of the glaze and the final tone.
